Happy Release Day To Bite Me!

Normally I’d blog about something technical, technology, or some cool gadget on Tuesdays, but today I’m giving the spot over to Melissa Francis for her debut young adult novel Bite Me release!  Congrats, Mel – you’ve waited a long time for today to roll around.  May the sales be with you!

Go visit Mel’s blog for a chance at a autographed book and goodies…click here!  Or click on the book’s pic to head on over to B&N.com and order it.

AJ Ashe isn’t your typical seventeen-year-old vampire—as if there is such a thing! She’s stuck in the middle of a huge fight between her two BFFs. Her ex-boyfriend—whom she’s still totally in love with, by the way—is now her stepbrother. A former classmate—who, um, she may or may not have turned into a vampire—is stalking her. And now, apparently, the fate of humankind lies in her little undead hands. What ever happened to the good old days, when all a vampire girl had to worry about was the occasional zit and hiding her taste for blood?

Book Monday – Medusa’s Master

cindydees I usually only pick up a category romance anymore when I have faith in the author, or I know them.  I’ve met Cindy Dees a couple of times and she’s got an Air Force background, like me.  Plus her Medusa series is entertaining.  This one – Medusa’s Master – is no exception.

The Medusas are a all-female Special Forces team and Captain Kim is the strong, silent one of the bunch.  Cindy blends a hot man (who talks about emotions amazingly well), romantic beach scenes, and great action in this installment.  It’s a quick, easy, read but I was impressed with how tightly focused the writing is and how nicely the action scenes are used.  It’s on my keeper list as an “authors I want to write like”.

From Barnes and Noble:

Captain "Kat" Kim, leader of the all-female Medusa squad, lives by the warrior’s code. Trained in an ancient warrior tradition, she can scale a wall in complete silence. But when she’s paired with Special Forces Captain Jeff Steiger, she faces new danger.
Steiger is all-American, from his blue eyes to his sun-streaked hair, and his laidback manner goes against Kat’s control-freak ways. When the two hunt for a high-end art thief, their opposite styles combust. And as mysterious commandos turn the job deadly, Kat must ditch her steely discipline and surrender to the desire that threatens to take them both down….

Thursday Mindless Wanderings

PH02896J It’s that day where I wax poetic on whatever crosses my mind.  Beware!

I have a theory that Americans would be less obese if everyone actually took their shopping carts back inside the store (or at least to the cart corral) instead of leaving them strewn around the parking lots.  Wonder if someone would fund a study on that?

Mrs. Butterworth tweets.  Go figure.

Phone reception in my office is so weird.  I’ll see four bars, but if I move the phone three inches to the right, it drops to nothing.  And amazingly, as soon as I dock it in the brand, spanking-new, iHome iP9 clock radio I bought for it last night and try to stream from the web, reception goes to nothing, no matter where the phone is.  Why is that?

Sad because WebDoggie Kenya’s brain aliens seem to be active lately and causing a recurrence of her previous symptoms.  Had wild hopes that the vets were wrong about the c-word and she’d be well for a lot longer.  But seriously – the prednisone munchies must be horrible for her since she’s waking me up every two hours for a snack.

Cesar Milan – the dog whisperer guy – wrote a tweet yesterday that our dogs reflect the energy of the owners.  Not sure what it means when the WebDoggies spend most of the day sleeping.  Is that a reflection of my energy?  (I don’t get to sleep like dogs do…)

It’s been downright cool this week, in the low 70’s instead of a sweltering July here in the STL area.  I’m loving it and I’m hoping you are having great summer weather too!  If this is global warming, I’m not complaining.

Do you recycle?  Our village doesn’t have a recycling program and neither does our garbage service.  My coworker has introduced to to some easy ways to recycle, so I’ve been saving the newspapers, plastic bottles, cans, and glass items.  We put the newspapers in brown paper bags and everything else in those giant Ziploc storage bags and I haul stuff over to the base recycling center every couple of months.  I’d like to think that the effort pays off in the long run, but I wonder sometimes.  Is it?

What’s on your mind today?  Any words of wisdom?  Got a good joke?  It’s your turn to wax poetic, or even mindlessly!

Eat, I Mean, Crochet Your Vegetables

vegetablesWe’ve visited the wacky world of knitted food, but I don’t think we’ve done much with crocheted food, have we?  Well, strike that off the to-do list!

From our friends at Annie’s Attic, here’s a snack tray that won’t add ANY calories (or nutrition, for that matter) to your diet.  Cucumber slices, broccoli, radishes, celery, those little baby carrots, maybe some cauliflower, olives, and a nice big bowl of creamy dip to go with them.  Yum, yum!

I’ve been really trying to figure out a reason WHY someone would want to spend all that time making crocheted vegetables.  And I came up with two:

- Dieticians could use them instead of that rubber food for a change of pace

-  Make a set for a kid and start them on the way to eating healthy young

Can you come up with a reason to make crocheted veggies?
