One of the webdoggies had abdominal surgery the other day to remove a fatty tumor. She’s fine, but we are nursing her through it, which means keeping her away from her incision.
Because the doc had to cut pretty deep, he put a drain tube in the incision so that the blood and gunk could drain out, instead of making her swell up. He advised I bring along a tee shirt when I picked her up.
My first dilemma was – what size tee shirt does a 70 pound Rhodesian Ridgeback wear? I debated between a youth’s large, then decided on a 5 pack of Michael Jordan endorsed Hanes white crew necks, sized adult medium. It fit pretty good, not that I’m into dressing up my dogs or anything. But she looks pretty cool with it fashionably tied in a knot on her back so she doesn’t trip over it.
The tee shirt, if you haven’t guessed already, absorbs the draining fluids so she doesn’t make a mess. It has the added benefit of keeping her from being able to lick on the incision.
But I found myself doing laundry for the dog today. Soaking tee shirts in the sink with a big dose of Oxyclean to get the stains out. And wondering why I never have any bleach when I want it. Like the other dogs are going to notice whether her tee shirt is nice and blinding white or not.
Nutty, huh? Done anything crazy for your pets in your time?
