Dear Fashion Buyers,
I’m writing to protest your selections for summer 2008 women’s fashions. I realize you make these purchases months in advance, so you couldn’t possibly have forseen that we’d be in the wettest spring and early summer on record, or that here in the Midwest we skipped spring altogether and went right from winter into the dog days of sweltering humidity.
But local weather aside, I wish you’d really consider the clothes you’re putting in the stores for us. Last week I went shopping for a pair of pants for work. Not capris. Not cropped pants. Not “city shorts”. Hard as it might be to believe, some of us have to wear dress pants to work, so it would have been nice if I could have found just one pair in the three stores I visited. But no, the only pants to be found were jeans.
While we’re discussing business appropriate attire, please understand that all those sleeveless tops are for the 19-22 year olds who sit and whine about how cold they are in the office air-conditioning. The rest of us wear jackets, sweaters, and sleeves rather than show off our cute little goosebumps. Please keep that in mind next buying season and make sure we get some tops with sleeve in them? The over 35 age group would appreciate it.
The other thing I would like to bring to your attention is this trend of buying shoulder bags that really aren’t shoulder bags. You need to take each and every purse, tote, and women’s business bag that you buy for your company and try them out. Can you load a bulging wallet, iPod, cell phone, and other purse necessities and toss that puppy over your shoulder? Sex and the City styles may look great, but they’re so impractical. Load that business bag up with a 7 pound laptop, some files, a textbook or two and you try keeping it on your shoulder as you race to connect to a flight in the airport. Doesn’t work, does it? Force those manufacturers to spend a few more pennies and lengthen those bag straps again, would you?
Sincerely,
A Concered Consumer
What about you? Anything you want to add to the letter?
