No, I didn’t buy the Buter Bag. Those straps would have driven me crazy. Can’t stand to have 8 lbs. of purse hanging from my elbow.
But an idea did strike!
First, we have to back up a couple of days to a shopping trip to downtown Belleville, where I had to rush to after work before downtown rolled up its sidewalk at 5:30 pm. A Christmas present for The Bob was there, and I had a coupon for 25% off. (My friend Carrie has drilled coupon-warfare into me.) While there, the salesperson reminded me that they had their discontinued Vera Bradley handbag line for 30% off.
Those of you who know me well know that I do not understand the lure of designer names. A $300 purse, to me, is a waste of money that could be spent on books and computer hardware. I just don’t get it. But in an attempt to broaden my horizons and experience more I decided to go look at these bags.
Vera Bradley is a designer of quilted fabric handbags. Now, these are SO not what The Pam ever thought she’d carry around. But I do admit some of the fabrics were fun and cheerful (not frumpy and “country”). And I found a messenger bag I thought would be good for toting my wip notebook and smallest computer to work, for those rare occasions I might actually use them during my lunch hour.
Here’s a pic of the bag. 30% off because the fabric is being discontinued priced the bag reasonable with other similar laptop bags and I could easily convert it into a knitting bag. <ggg> It does lack the protection I would give a computer if I were traveling, but it’s fine for back and forth to the office.
So, having liked this bag, I wondered if ol’ Vera made any other styles I’d like.
Guess what? They did!
I wandered over to another local store who had heavily advertised that they carried this brand of bags. They had the discontinued fabric bags on sale for 25% off and I found this Cargo sling bag.
Smart, roomy and stylish – who could ask for more? This sling-style bag is
designed to lie neatly against your body. The trendy design has two gusseted flap pockets with Velcro® closures, plus a slip pocket on each end and a full zippered compartment on back. Three inside slip pockets and comfortable, adjustable shoulder.
14″x 12½” x 5¾” — 46″ adjustable strap
Did you read that last line? 46 inches of slinging pleasure!
All by itself I knew this bag would very closely resemble Purse Nirvana!
So I plunked down the credit card and said “gimme one”.
But deep inside… I had an idea.
