Last weekend I saw in ad in the paper for something called a “Butler Bag”. Sounded interesting, so of course I googled it. Butler Bag is a women’s purse (you might have already guessed this) with a divided organizer section in the bottom of the bag.
Now, I admit I lusted a bit for this bag after taking a look at the website. The Hybrid size was supposed to be big enough to fit my small laptop in it! (Although where the power cord would go wasn’t mentioned.) If you look carefully, you’ll see one full sized compartment on the left and six half-sized compartments. There’s even room to slip notebooks and papers on the sides.
I have never spent more than $20 for a handbag in my life, but I sensed this was about to change. According to the website, this bag might just fit all the requirements of Purse Nirvana. Could it be true?
So I went to the store one rainy afternoon, in the dark and wet, and put my hands on the bag. I unloaded all my stuff from my current purse and lovingly fit it into the compartments and slots of the Butler Bag. I even picked out a color – deviating from my normal black for the lovely chocolate brown bag.
But alas, it was not in stock. Plus, I was still hesitant about spending $150 on a purse. My midwestern frugalness was kicking in with a vengance.
Oh, and it did NOT meet one major requirement. The straps were too short, thus limiting the “slingability” of the purse over the shoulder.
Would I buy it? Tune in tomorrow!
