August 30, 10:36 PM; 74.5 Degrees F.

I should be heading for bed about now.  But when I stepped outside to put the dogs out one last time, I just had to grab the laptop and settle out on the deck for awhile.  I often do my best writing in the dark (and yes, I did write and I love what I wrote).

A mojito on the tray table next to me, an almost-full moon overhead, and a nice easterly breeze at about 4 knots.

It’s a beautiful summer night broken only by the barking dogs telling each other good night.

And the bugs attracted to the laptop’s glow.

A Real Writing Meter

A lot of writers like to have “word meters” displayed on their blogs as a barometer of their progress.

Most of them are small and unobtrusive:

or maybe even simply:

Zokutou word meterZokutou word meter

10,000 / 95,000
(10.5%)

If I were to display a meter, I think I’d use this one:
Writetopia

Because that’s what I’d actually be doing, if not this one:

Writetopia

And then on days when it’s crap writing:

Or maybe

Yes, that pretty much is my office…

The graphic in the header of the blog pretty much depicts my office.  I have books everywhere, although The Bob did get tired of the ones piled on the floor and put them all into boxes somewhere.  I have to dig through them and see if there’s any Cherry Adair books in there so I can study on her style.

But the room is a hazard of dog toys, tails, and whatever else I’ve thrown in there.  All in all, I think it’s a fair representation of what my office looks like.
