Mowing Music

Partridge Family Definitive Collection

Ah, the memories.  Some songs I’d forgotten, but the last – a live version of Please Please Me was new.  Good music to mow the lawn to.

I have to admit, this album is a bit of a guilty pleasure.  I love “I Woke Up In Love This Morning” and “I Think I Love You” (which I thought was an inspired song choice when Constantine did it in American Idol a couple seasons back).

What’s your “ah, the old days” music?

Would You Give Up Your Cell Phone?

I admit that while cell phones come in handy, I’m not glued to mine.  Even though I ponied up the $$$ to buy the Samsung Blackjack with internet and email and all that jazz, I hardly ever use it to do anything but entertain myself.

A recent article here indicates that a lot of people wouldn’t give up their cell phones, even for $2,000,000 (that’s two million dollars, folks!).  I’d take the money.  What would you do?

Guilty Secret

I have a guilty little secret.  I read all those articles about what’s happening to Paris Hilton in jail and Britney Spears’ in rehab and Lindsey Lohan’s bad girl attempts.

I tell myself it’s a study in human nature.  It’s probably because it’s like watching a train wreck in progress.

These girls lead lives that just make you hold your breath and say “what are they thinking?”  Oh, I know that fame is powerful and that having money on top of it at that age just breeds the aura of invincibility.  Underage drinking isn’t anything that millions of teenage kids try to get away with – the difference is they don’t have paparazzi documenting their every move.

Having two kids doesn’t seem to have slowed Britney down – when you can afford babysitters and nannies, your night life isn’t nearly as affected as when you have to manage those two a.m. feedings all by yourself.  Jail may have redeemed Paris – only time will tell.  I’m sort of rooting for her to take her millions and go forth and do good.  Lindsey’s in rehab (again).

What’s the fascination, I keep asking myself and I don’t rightly know the answer. Maybe because I like my rose-colored glasses and find the dark side of people fascinating.   Might be because I read the articles to procrastinate from what I really SHOULD be doing.  Yeah, that’s probably it.

Do you get sucked in by anything in particular?  Video Games?  Soap Operas?  Baseball games?

One of the dogs had some minor surgery yesterday.  A tumor removed from one elbow, a cyst out of a cheek, and a cracked tooth that, fortunately, didn’t even have to come out.  While she was under anesthesia, they gave her a full dental treatment and ground down her toenails to stubs.

Poor baby was pretty much out of it last night.  Wandering in circles around the house bumping that big cone around her head into the walls every three steps.  She’d perk up when food was brought out, but per the doc’s instructions, she was a light dinner diet.  Did not make her happy.

Maisy is a very mellow dog, but it broke my heart to see a shaved spot on one leg where IV fluids had been put in, a shaved spot on another leg where a tumor was removed and one cheek shaved and cut into.  All she really wanted to do was sleep, so I put my pillow on her bed and stretched out with her.

This morning she’s a happier dog.  Tail’s wagging and she’s eating and drinking normally.  She should still milk her surgery for some extra hugs and kisses and treats for a couple of more days though.
