A Blog About Nothing

I’ve struggled this week to come up with a topic worthy of blogging about.  And have failed miserably.

Other people have exciting lives.  I do not.  I spend my days in front of a computer, testing software and writing help documents.  I go home, feed the webdoggies, and sit in front of the computer some more.  I may work on my writing, or play with a web site, or shop.  Who knows.

I have opinions on global warming, Cindy Sheehan’s “resignation” from being a protest leader, and whether the St. Louis Cardinals will make a respectable showing yet this year or not.

When I first started blogging, I decided there were a few things I would never blog about.  One is my day job, other than in general terms like I mentioned above.  I NEED my day job, as I strongly suspect I’ll never win the lottery.  So I’ll burn no bridges there.  I won’t blog about my weight and/or weight loss efforts.  There’s enough others who feel the need to tell us every ounce gained or lost.  My efforts just can’t compare.  Politics are just too touchy.

So that doesn’t leave much.

How ’bout them Cardinals this year?  Let’s hope the team is over the worst, eh?

Yes, I’m a geek, nerd and dweeb…

Ran across this gadget this morning courtesy of the boys and girls at Engadget.

USB Mini Fridge

Cools that can down to 47 degrees farenheit.  Have to go to a meeting?  Store that beverage so it’ll still be cool when you get back.

Want one too?  Just click on the picture.  It’s a very reasonable $33USD.

My Semi-Annual Wish…

Dog Wearing GlassesEvery year, just about the time spring is in full bloom, I get a yearning deep inside. I can’t decide if it’s a shallow thing I want, or if it has justifiable merit.

You see, I wear glasses. Have been a four-eyes ever since I was a wee tyke. During my military years I wore contacts but when I started approaching the big 4-0 things starting changing and contacts weren’t comfortable any more.

So every year I get to the point where I want to shed glasses. I don’t want them fogging up every time I open the oven door. I don’t want the doggie nose prints and happy kisses on them. I’m tired of smears and spots and dust that are attracted to the lenses. I’m really, really tired of having to change my glasses for sunglasses in order to see outdoors.

I actually don’t wear my glasses a lot. I can wander around the house and get dressed and read books without my glasses. In fact, more often than not, my glasses will be on top of my head if I’m reading. I need them to see the computer screen though, to drive, and to watch TV (even with a 55″ screen, if I want to actually see it in focus).

I’m not a good candidate for Lasik surgery, according to my eye care professional, who figures I’ll just be trading my glasses for reading glasses anyway.  Not what I want to hear.  I tried progressive contacts last year, but abandoned them because they were uncomfortable.  I’d be willing to try again, though.  I think.  Maybe a different brand would work better.  But I’m not sure it’s worth the money to go through that again only to find out nothing has changed.

I love my dogs, but I’m tired of whipping off the glasses every time I get a kiss from them.

What about you?  Do you wear glasses or contacts?  What is the most annoying thing about wearing them?
